Facts About Kerrville Debt:

Did You Know...

  • the City of Kerrville is currently in debt over $65 million, NONE VOTER APPROVED!
  • the City has not issued voter approved debt in over 30 years! (March 17, 1987)
  • needed maintenance/upgrades for the Public Safety facility has been deferred for nearly a decade
  • In the previous four city budgets, the City had been planning to issue voter approved debt to finance Public Safety facility
  • Non-voter approved debt (certificates of obligation) was originally meant for funding unforeseeable emergencies
  • the City recently decided to borrow at least $7 million immediately and then $10+ million next year, to “hopefully” address deferred maintenance on Public Safety facility, however will NOT ASK VOTER APPROVAL
  • increase in debt will result in ever increasing dependence on tax dollars to provide necessary services

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

A petition is being circulated throughout the community that states the following:

“Whereas the undersigned qualified voters believe debt issued without explicit voter approval, in the form of Certificates of Obligation, shall be reserved for funding unforeseen emergencies,
Therefore, the undersigned qualified voters of the City of Kerrville, Texas, being at least five percent of the qualified voters of the issuer, protest the issuance of the Combination Tax and Revenue Certificates of Obligation as proposed by Kerrville City Council in Resolution 29-2021 and request that an election on such issuance be ordered, held, and conducted in the manner provided for bond elections under Chapter 1251, Texas Government Code.”

Please join us in letting the City Council know that 'we the citizens' will no longer tolerate being left out of the planning conversation regarding such important issues as public safety and fiscal responsibility. Citizens will be canvassing your neighborhood asking for your support and signature on this important petition. Signature gathering events will also be setup within the community for citizens to come out and join the movement.
